- The
RSEF website is up-and-running! We hope this site will provide a bounty
of information and resources, as well keep you up-to-date on the goings-on
of Rochester’s and Minnesota’s education world.
- RSEF
is gearing up for the referendum! The election will take place on
November 7, along with numerous political races – including
school board, city council, and mayor at the local level; state representatives
and senators, as well as governor; and the national House and Senate
race.
- The
referendum ballot seeks to renew three expiring levies, consolidating
them into one referendum of $8.5 million to expire in the year 2007.
The second question seeks to add an additional $200/pupil to the district
budget; it would also expire in 2007.
- Planning
for the October 7th “Rally for the Future” is underway.
This rally is a follow-up to the July 7th “Rally for the Future,”
at which many local and state politicians, school board members, students,
district employees, and members of the general public were present.
These rallies are held on the seventh of the month to give voters
a countdown to the election and to promote education funding from
a student perspective. Speakers included former gubernatorial candidate
Senator Steve Kelley, Senator Dave Senjem, and school board member
Cris Fischer.
- RSEF
is currently looking to expand its forces into a larger umbrella group
– Minnesota Students for Education Funding (MSEF). MSEF would
include local student groups, such as RSEF, but would also act as
one coalition of students when lobbying at the capitol and making
appearances throughout the state of Minnesota. If you are interested
in starting an ad hoc group similar to RSEF in your school district,
please peruse the “Materials” section at left for the
how-to-letter.
